The Ultimate Pond Cleaning Checklist

So, the weather's nice, you have the day off, and you're planning on cleaning the pond - before you start draining, you'll first want to make sure the necessary supplies are on hand. Let's review that checklist.

Use a kiddie pool or sustainable container to hold the fish, and use netting to cover the container to prevent them from jumping out. You may also use air pumps for your fish containers, if you plan on having them sit for a while. Small, submersible pumps for each would also work.

A Wet/Dry Shop Vac or a few five-gallon buckets for collecting debris may also be of use. A pressure washer is well worth owning. If you don't have one, consider asking a friend or renting one. Use the pump you already have to drain the pond. Also include scissors for trimming plants, and water conditioner for when refilling the pond and transferring fish.

These are the most important items. Obviously, there can be more – planting containers if you plan on repotting, boots, rubber gloves); the list can stretch pretty far.
